Learning Objectives
Attendees successfully completing the SH&A Certified ESD SpecialistSM Level 3: Process Specialist course and take home project will be capable of analyzing the electrostatic characteristics of a manufacturing process. They will be able to identify the most sensitive device the process can handle in terms of HBM, CDM, FIM and MM, locate electrostatic process problems and recommend corrective action to enhance the process as necessary.
Overview
This 3 day course of 1 day classroom and 2 days of hands on instruction teaches advanced measurement and analysis techniques required for process evaluation. This unique course is conducted in a fully functional manufacturing environment reserved for this training program. Successful candidates can answer the important question, “What is the most ESD sensitive device the process can safely handle without damage?” It will provide the foundation for detailed and objective troubleshooting process related damage and identify potential ESD problems. The attendee learns to isolate the locations and types of process issues that can damage Ultra Sensitive electronic devices. The course teaches how to use advanced measurement data as a foundation for implementing enhanced electrostatic process control.
Recommended Prerequisites
The SH&A Level 3 program is intended for experienced ESD control practitioners who have a working knowledge of ESD theory and controls, device damage models, the electronic manufacturing process, and are skilled in ESD industry standard measurements. It is highly recommended that the attendee candidate have a minimum of two of the following credentials:
- SH&A Certified ESD SpecialistSM Level 1: Plant Auditor (Attendance or Certification)
| Other Courses |

Day 3: The final course day consists of practical process analysis where the attendee must analyze the entire process, locate and define process defects, and provide a full report on their findings and corrective recommendations.
Additional Requirement for ESD SpecialistSM Level 3: Process Capability Analysis
All attendees who complete the Level 3 course will receive an attendance certificate. Those desiring SH&A Certification as a Level 3 Process Specialist are required to complete a process analysis take home project. The project requires detailed process description, detailed measurements, and a written report including data summary detailing findings and recommendations. Course instructors will review the entire report and may ask questions via telephone or email for clarification and additional project detail if required. Upon successful review of the attendee’s submission and follow up SH&A will issue the SH&A Certified ESD SpecialistSM Level 3 Process Speialist/Practitioner certificate.
