SH&A Provides Electrostatic Damage Risk Assessment

New standards and customers require reliable indication of ESD protection levels in the electronic manufacturing and device handling process. With each Facility Evaluation, SH&A provides a detailed Human Body Model (HBM) Risk Assessment evaluation. This innovative approach was designed by SH&A to estimate the potential damage to ESD sensitive devices during handling and transport by operations personnel. The HBM Risk Assessment provides the following information:

  1. The level of Human Body discharge damage protection offered in the process. This includes a probability analysis of device damage that may be caused by personnel discharge based on the sensitivity of various devices handled in that process.

  2. A range estimate of overall personnel electrostatic voltages generated in the facility by operations personnel with greater than 99% reliability, including:

    • A range projection of body voltages generated by personnel while standing and handling devices at their workstations, and

    • During personnel transport of static sensitive devices and assemblies.

The assessment provides the answers Operation, Quality and ESD management need to evaluate the effectiveness of selected ESD controls. A detailed data summary and report is provided for each area of the facility where HBM Risk Assessment is conducted. Contact SH&A for further information regarding this valuable service.
